SAYING GOODBYE – GOOD GRIEF

By Seren Shutte

As a nurse I experience loss, death & grief as part of my job. Helping my patients and their families in such a personal time can be confronting, intense but always an honour.

Last week I said goodbye to my Nana.

FRIDAY WRAP UP

By The Beetle Shack team

How can it possibly be Friday AGAIN already!? We're not complaining.
Here’s a quick wrap up of a few bits and pieces that we can't get enough of at the moment at The Beetle Shack…

READING: East of Eden by American author John Steinbeck. We've only just started but the language is so rich and tantilising  we can't wait to hop into bed nice and early tonight with a cuppa and sink our teeth into it – check out it’s review on Good Reads here.

WEARING: Delicious pieces from 'The Secret Garden' collection by Bohemian Traders (pictured - details below). The divine lace, sophisticated cuts and femme cream, black and blush tones are getting us way too excited for Spring! Check out the new collection here.

WATCHING: True Detective. We've devoured the first and second seasons and are chomping at the bit for the next story. Get IMBD's take on the series and a guide to the episodes here.

SCENTED BY: MOR Blood Orange. We cannot get enough of this MOR perfume oil - it's subtle and exotic. Grab it at Myer here.

BEAUTIFYING: O Cosmedics. We're trying out best to make time for the daily facial routine of our mother's dreams. It doesn't always happen when it does we're loving the active yet gentle products from O Cosmedics, take a look here.

CRAVING: Chia Pods. We're a bit late to the Chia Pod party but that's no reason to miss out on all the pudding fun! Apparently these little darlings are the holy grail of wholefood nutrition in super cute and user friendly packaging - works for us! Check them out here or make your own (we intend to this weekend) using one of Daily Burn's 10 recipes here.

MOVING: Swimming Laps. Not a new thought but a good one nonetheless. We're on the getting healthy & happy train and an old favourite of ours is hopping in the pool and stretching out all those tight muscles and giving the spine a nice lengthen. Probably doesn't need a tutorial but let's have one anyway. Read up here on how to swim laps.

Enjoy your weekend!

INCREDIBLE ZUCCHINI & CHORIZO SOUP

By Talia Christine

This soup blew my mind. This past weekend one of the ladies made this for dinner for our girls' weekend. Guys... I'm generally not a soup kinda gal. This soup rules. And it's GORGEOUS! C'mon! It packs a punch with spicy spanish chorizo. This isn't sissy, watery soup. This is smooth and filling. And really really flavorful.

PAINTING A BEDROOM MURAL

By Kate Dyer

It's safe to say the Fresh White Wall is somewhat of a timeless classic, but it isn't necessarily the most exciting option when it comes to kids rooms or nurseries (or even adult bedrooms for that matter).

With our bub just weeks away and nesting mode in full swing, I wanted to do something to make the room really special so began looking at options. There are some fantastic stick-on decor and wallpapers (with permanent and removable varieties) but I'd always wanted to try my hand at painting a mural.

The whole project cost under $50 and you can get as creative as you like with a few simple tools!

FASHION UPDATE: THE CLASSIC WHITE TEE

The Beetle Shack team

You know what would be great to wear to that mid-week do with your skinny jeans or new drop crotch pants and comfy flats? A classic white tee. How about tucked in to an over-the-top skirt with fab new heels for a chic, slightly sporty take on after dark glamour that reminds your friends you used to be (and still are when you find the time and headspace) "into fashion"? Yep, that would be a classic white tee as well.

Sometimes it's those go-to basics that you just KNOW will go with everything and complete your wardrobe and make every outfit BETTER if you could just get your hands on them!

A beautifully cut, easy wearing white tee-shirt is just that for us. And thank goodness, the search is over, check out the Bohemian Traders' Classic White Tee. Go-to basic perfection.

P.S Who else is pumped the drop crotch trend is hanging around - is there actually anything comfier?

Wearing: Bohemian Traders Classic White Tee, Summer Drop Crotch Pants in Navy

POTATO AND CAULIFLOWER CURRY – POST FORM THE ARCHIVES

By The Beetle Shack team

We got to wondering what to make for dinner tonight and realised there was no meat in the freezer and we needed a veggie hit for the old immune system - this recipe (and some thoughts on veganism) from the archives should hit the spot.

SLOW COOKED LAMB SHANKS WITH CREAMY POLENTA

By Emma Steendam

In this type of weather, at this time of year, there’s nothing for it: it’s slow cooked lamb shanks all round here. We’ve often butchered our own lamb or beef (which we don’t anymore with Matt working off-farm, it used to be included in his salary) so I would quite often have some fairly random cuts of meat to deal with in the back of my freezer. My slow cooker would get a work out in Winter, especially when I was working out of home all day – I could pop some simple ingredients and tougher cuts of meat into the slow cooker, turn it on slow all day and have a delicious dinner ready when I got home, plus the house smelt amazing. Brilliant. Nowadays I’ll admit I don’t use my slow cooker quite as much, but I still love me some lamb shanks! With our coonara-style wood fire I’ve taken to just popping my casserole dish on top all day and going about my business while my shanks bubble and braise and create magic. If you don’t have a slow cooker but you do have a handy wood heater you could do the same, or just your lowest stove top setting will do too.

WEARING | CASUAL WITH A PINCH OF LUXE

Hi, happy Wednesday!! What's been happening? Oh that's right- we don't talk on blogs anymore, do we? Who has time these days?

Anyways, I've been adding a few of the new Bohemian Basics from Bohemian Traders into my winter wardrobe this week - today it's the Classic White Tee, tomorrow it'll be the Striped Scoop Neck.

If you're looking to add the perfect white tee to your wardrobe, I'm happy to report that this one is IT! Made from soft-but-not-clingy white cotton with a touch of stretch, it's boxy proportions mean it skims the bust and hides the *ehum* muffin top. PERFECT.

I've added the Drop Crotch Pant in Khaki for serious comfort and my wear-every-day-even-when-innappropriate- because-it's-so-bloody-warm Zoe Jacket (down to $99) and I'm ready for the office.

Anyways, snooze.

HOW ARE YOU????

WEARING

Zoe Faux Jacket | Size Small | SALE $99

MORNING LIGHT & CREPES AU CITRON, PLACE DES VOSGES

By Alison Vassallo
About two hundred metres from the apartment I stayed in was Place des Vosges, possibly the most beautiful square in all of Paris. Even though it was so close by, it took me a few days to find the time to go – so early one sunny morning I headed straight there.
It was around 7:00am on a Sunday when I arrived. There was no-one to be seen.
I couldn’t quite believe this. In such a stunning place in the city, if not the world, not one Parisian was there to admire the buildings, bathed in the golden morning light? Not to mention other tourists like me. I felt quite smug about this revelation, and happily strolled about while the perimeter of the square and walkways remained empty and quiet.
After all, it’s not every day you get to say you had Place des Vosges all to yourself.
