FOUR WEEKS IN A TENT

By Seren Shutte
Part 1

Crazy in Love

When I asked my husband how he wished to celebrate his birthday this year, his response excited me big time.

"Let's go traveling. A big trip…outback?"

We spent a considerable amount of time and money in preaparation. Our equipment, food stocks, bedding and tent we teamed with well researched car upgrades…Now, was I crazy for WANTING to spend four weeks in a TENT with my little family???

The answer is yes, I am crazy. Crazy for them.

In the five years of parenting I have never been so content to read Roald Dhal books and fall alseep with my girls. I did this almost every night we were away. I played with them, carried them, chased them, tickled them and loved them more than I ever have.

As for my time with the birthday man….as a couple we live simply with a real taste for treating ourselves….this trip was the epitome of our foundation. His smile has never been as consistently wide. We had FUN; we frolicked, fought and felt our family growing stronger.

Now home, I am in post-holiday-blues mood, the children seem so LOUD now that we are in four walls and I madly miss the simplcity of having only a vehicle's worth of stuff to live with.

Ever the optimist, I have memories forever and stories to boot!
