By Emily Beetleshack
The original author of The Beetle Shack, Emily is a chronic over sharer and collector of unnecessary consumer goods. In a past life Emily was a high school Visual Arts teacher. She always enjoyed the ‘naughty’ kids the most; the ones who were resistant to following the rules and questioned the boundaries. They were interesting, challenging and funny. When she was pregnant with her first child she could be heard saying, “I hope I have a cheeky child, one that speaks his mind and is rebellious in nature”. Unsurprisingly, she did. In the archives of the Beetle Shack you'll find her tales of raising her own ‘spirited’ children whilst swanning about the house dressed as a fruit salad.

Summer has come to a rapid close and it's time to dig out those trans-seasonal favourites to get you through until winter. For me, a good trans seasonal garment is worth it's weight in gold. Those pieces that can be layered are well worth the investment- add tights, a scarf, cardigan or coat and felt hat and you've got a brand new wardrobe… for free (you know, if you already own tights and a cardigan)!

 I have a handful of go-to pieces for this time of year. Mostly I'm looking for light (ish) layers and loose fitting pieces because you know, 3 babies.

So the picture above does NOT depict me in your current state, or any state at all, for that matter. It shows my glorious best friend from primary school, Ella. She is luscious. Look. At. Her.

Anyways, back to business. If you're someone who likes easy dressing, hates sweating as the result of inappropriate garment choices and doesn't want to get changed in-between school drop off and bed time, then these are my tips for you;

1. Invest in a great Khaki Vest (or light weight jacket) - This is an essential layer for every woman's wardrobe. The sky is the limit when it comes to how much you spend, search your local shopping centre or pick something up online. This is the piece that will top off everything. Khaki hides the dirt (winning) and as an added, but potentially irrelevant bonus, it's très on trend. I'm wearing this vest and this jacket, naturally.

2. Get out the Button Downs - Autumn really is all about layering. You won't always need a jacket, even if it is mid weight. Consider throwing a button down shirt around your waist on in your bag. you can wear it open over a light weight tee or button it up for warmth as necessary. Stick to natural fibres to reduce the sweat risk. Easy, best you've already got a dozen in your wardrobe.

3. Don't forget your skin - Our skin is still tanned right? Summer only ended yesterday. Lets not put our legs and shoulders away just yet. Keep your Boho Tops and High Low skirts in mind when dressing for the day. Add tights or your Khaki Vest if necessary. Change your shoes from Saltwater Sandals to ankle boots and you're seriously set.

4. Don't forget your Summer frocks - That's right. I bet you've already got 50% off what you need for Autumn already hanging around. Maxi Dresses just need a cardi, add tights to your Dreamer Dresses and wear all of your Summer singlets and tanks with jeans.

Give us 5 minutes and we will all look like Ella. Ehum.

Thanks so much for your words of encouragement, advice and solidarity.
