By Emily Beetleshack
The original author of The Beetle Shack, Emily is a chronic over sharer and collector of unnecessary consumer goods. In a past life Emily was a high school Visual Arts teacher. She always enjoyed the ‘naughty’ kids the most; the ones who were resistant to following the rules and questioned the boundaries. They were interesting, challenging and funny. When she was pregnant with her first child she could be heard saying, “I hope I have a cheeky child, one that speaks his mind and is rebellious in nature”. Unsurprisingly, she did. In the archives of the Beetle Shack you'll find her tales of raising her own ‘spirited’ children whilst swanning about the house dressed as a fruit salad.

Our dining space is petite and our old table really was too large for the area once we factored in 3 young kids. We literally could not walk around the table and we found that often, half of it was covered in washing, sorting, spare papers and general junk.

Recently, Dave and I decided it was high time we replaced our disgusting old dining table. It was white. We have 3 children. Need I say more?

We'd purchased the monster a few years before we had kids. Back then our dream weekend was filled with long table dinners with friends and extended family. We'd spend our Saturday cooking, baking, cleaning and mixing up the perfect double batch of double strength Sangria (so many doubles, so many awesomes). Music playing, windows open and not a care in the world.

It served us well with it's extendable length and porous white top.

Until we had a child. And then another and another.

That darling old table is now peeling and flaking and stained with all manner of fluro and glitter and solidified weet-bix.  It's gross and dare I confess, slimy… even after a through clean.

It seriously had to go.

Once we had decided that an update was necessary, Dave and I discussed what we wanted in a new dining setting. Our needs were surprisingly simple

1. Comfortable Chairs
2. Non - stainable
3. Will see us through raising our children.

We wanted durability, comfort and practicality.

Our dining space is petite and our old table really was too large for the area once we factored in 3 young kids. We literally could not walk around the table and we found that often, half of it was covered in washing, sorting, spare papers and general junk.

In the end we went with this beautiful round oak table from Brosa and it is dreamy!! We love it. The chairs are seriously comfortable, outrageously good quality (that timber is so smooth), not to mention totally gorgeous to look at. And that carved oak pedestal? Adore!

After seeing the interest in our new setting via social media, I've been in touch with Brosa and they have agreed to offer one of their gorgeous buttoned ottomans (we got one of these too) to a reader of The Beetle Shack! WHOOP!!

We've got the Herron Grey (pictured) and it mixes in perfectly with our decor and can be used as a foot stool or coffee table!

  4. Love! We were also on the hunt for dining chairs, a tricky situation as had to complement our 150 year old table of my great-grandparents...
That ottoman is calling my name as our coffee table's days are numbered I'm afraid, it is the absolute perfect height for one chubby almost-crawling baby girl to keep conking her head on :(

  5. Oh I love it! We want to update our table and chairs too with our 3 little ones!

  6. Just gorgeous. I've had my eye on a very similar dining setting or much the same reasons.

  12. This sounded so familiar to me! Our table is too big and adorned with glitter and paint (and rather sticky too). I was thinking a round table might work better...

  13. The. Perfect. Ottoman. And your table is a delight - enjoy many meals as a family sitting around it. (Sighing with sadness that there is no other way to enter the giveaway other than fb... I'm still avoiding it.)
