I don't think there is a stay at home mum on the face of the western world that doesn't have an item or two from Target in her wardrobe. Why? Because it's easy, affordable and on trend but most importantly, it's wash and wear. For me, thats the holy grail of my mumming wardrobe. I need clothing that I can throw on (from the floor if need be - see exhibit c - fabulously unironed shorts) and flog, day in day out. I need items that I can mix and match without needing to think about it. Plus, I need clothing that will fit within my *cough* budget.

This Summer I took $200 to Target to see what I could come up with. I was searching for two things easy wear and smart casual and I'm pretty happy with the result. I've included the sizes and price of each item 'cue if you're anything like me, you don't have time to try things on with kids in tow (hello online shopping, we love you)

I picked up a couple of Summer dresses for $35 each, two pairs of easy wear shorts, one crocheted cardi, one patterned scarf and a few simple tops. Those 8 or 9 items will see me dressed quickly and easily every day this summer.

In other news, Target now has an additional 30% off women's clothing so those prices up there are even cheaper. Crazy, I know.

What are your Summer Essentials?

  2. Wow, you've done so well with $200! I'm an unashamed department chainstore lover. I hit up Target, Kmart and Big W all the time when I want to add something to my wardrobe. They've really stepped up of late and I like that you can buy into trends without spending the earth.

  3. Love the crocheted cardigan and the scarf is a winner!

Thanks for including sizes. It really helps to get an idea of what to buy for the look you want. I often like to wear oversized pieces and because my boobs are so much bigger than the rest of me, I often find myself sizing up anyway.

Love the capsule wardrobe idea. This is not something I'm terribly successful at - although I try. Hard!

I tried on the denim shirt but it wasn't me. I think it must be because it is so you! x

  6. Love all the clothes but I'm starting to think I'm the only person in the world who does not get the appeal of those Saltwater sandals. To me they look exactly like the roman sandals we had to wear to school. Although if anyone can make them look cute it's probably you!

  18. Em - you totally inspired me to head to Target. The spotted denim shirt did it. My parents arrived in town today so once the smalls were in bed, we headed back to the shops - AN EVENT IN ITSELF TO GO OUT AT NIGHT TIME - AND THEN AGAIN WITHOUT THE KIDS!!! - and mum and I wandered around the clothes racks - and I tried clothes on. Actually in the shop! And took my time. And looked in the mirror. And bought over $130 worth of clothes with none of my own money. I had been stockpiling vouchers! With 30% off it was kinda ridiculous. And I am so so happy! Thanks for the inspiration xx
