A Hand Made Christmas

Christmas is such a joyous occasion when one manages to avoid the shops and the maxing out of ones credit cards. In Dave's family, we enjoy a Hand Made Christmas to ensure we do just that - stay well away the local shopping centres when they are at their most busy.

This year we hosted dinner at our house. In the absence of flowers for our simple table setting, I gathered greens from the vegetable gardens. Everyone bought a Polish dish and we feasted like good old fashioned Polish should.

Each year the gifts are thoughtful, beautifully constructed and entirely personalised. It certainly helps that Dave's family is made up of Artists, Musicians and Quilters. Below you can see the recipients with their gifts

 A customised Glass Boat Portrait.
{commissions available through wood|glass art}

 Fully hand crafted western shirt complete with removable tassels.

 Knotted Yarn Necklace and oversized floral beach bag

 Custom built double decker egg tray.

 Folk Fibers inspired quilt

 1940's inspired frame made to suit an artwork I was given last year.

 Bottle Neck Slide.

 Bespoke gardeners hat

We here at The Beetle Shack hope that Christmas was a totally loved up occasion at your place. Thanks so much for popping in here this year, you've made writing this blog such a pleasure.

See you soon, lovebirds.

  1. What gorgeous gifts. I'd love to do the hand made thing next year, though your family seem to be absolutely amazing at making things. I'm not sure my home made gear would end up looking anything like any of that lovely loot. Merry Christmas to you, Em and thanks for all of your lovely posts over the year. I don't comment often but I'm hear reading and enjoying it all:) x

  4. Yes, what is a bottle slide?
    The best part about these photos is how truly grateful everyone looks, regardless of the cost or size etc of their gift. Handmade is lovely!

  10. WOW............those are truely amazing gifts and each one of you would know how much work went into producing the item and therefore appreciate it way more. My Mum didn't make this gift however it was well received "a cheesemaking kit for 6kgs of home made cheeses". Best present ever (that was a surprize) and my little sister bought me the River Cottage Australia (we don't have foxtel hence haven't seen this series yet). Regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia.
