Setting The Table With Target and A Giveaway {sponsored}

We're having Dave's family to our house for Christmas this year, you know, so we can feast on home grown pork products, icy cold cocktails and enjoy the air-conditioning. We're planning a Polish feast as a nod to the family's heritage and I wanted to set a really special table.

In typical fashion, I went over the top with print, pattern and colour. I've avoided the more traditional colours of red, green and white in favour of fruity hues like pink, green, blue and purple. Because it's Christmas, I've embraced 'glitter' with complete abandon.

I started by layering coloured textiles complete with a bright table runner before filling my classic glass dome with masses of coloured baubles. Glassware is filled with fresh peonies and glitter encrusted reindeer stand proudly amongst ceramic pine trees.

I feel in love with the vibrant range of plastic table ware at Target and decided to add a jolt of blue in the form of tumblers and wine glasses. I chose platters and plates in textured ceramic including stunning crackle glazed dinner plates and polka dotted beauties for the side. We'll be eating with new cutlery from the Jamie Oliver collection and wearing party hats from glistening silver bon bons (I love a good bon bon).

To add a little bit of whimsy to the room I hung some ivy (but lets just go all out and call it mistletoe) above the table and put a couple of golden bauble wreaths on the wall.

Yipee! Just writing this makes me so excited for the family, food and friends we will be enjoying over the next few weeks!

We'll be preparing a place for our Christmas Tree (which is also available from Target) this weekend and before you know it, December will be upon us and the champagne will be flowing.

Because it's just SO much fun to decorate the house with all things festive, Target would like to give you the chance to win a $180 voucher to spend! Yaahooo.

All you need to do is head over to the Target Website, take a look around and tell me what you'd buy with your $180 voucher.

Tell me, are you hosting a family Christmas at your house this year?

What do you do to prepare?

  1. Well yes, we are hosting Christmas this year for the first time, so we need to get some festive tableware and as it's my baby's first Christmas too we'll have to get her a cute outfit and a special present from Santa

  2. OMG I LOVE this table set up! Such a clash of colours and prints and I'm totally loving it. Good work!
This year my husband, 14 month old daughter, and I are staying home. Every year is too dramatic with 3 families to see on one day (inlaws are divorced) with a baby who HATES the car and travel time being 3-4 hours that day just to make everyone else happy. SO, we said stuff it, we'll stay home this year and if people want to see us they can come up for arvo tea!
I've decided to still make it a special day and do a lunch and have the decorations and themes going, even if it is only for us 3. Because I really really REALLY love Christmas :)
I'd be one happy chappy to win $180 to spend at Target too! I'd buy tableware... patterned plates and bowls are a must, and are in fact on my wish list this year. Actually, apart from some pretty plates, I would probably buy xmas decorations for some friends in my town (blue mountains) who recently lost their houses in a bush fire. Because I can't imagine christmas without a tree or some decorations and I'm sure they need a bit of a cheer up!

  3. I think I would cry if I won this Target Voucher. I'd love to be able to decorate my home so it feels special for Christmas. My favourite Christmas decoration from Target is the 'Large Standing Glitter Reindeer' in gold, and would love to build a beautiful gold themed Christmas table around this with the gift voucher. Fingers crossed, thank you so much for this giveaway :)

  4. This year we are having a generally quiet, calm and peaceful Christmas. We are celebrating with our immediate little family on the day but the days before and days afterwards we will celebrate with our friends and family and catch up with everyone and just enjoy togetherness and being present. To win a Target gift voucher would be such a wonderful blessing. After looking through the website I would choose to freshen up our home for the season with fairy lights for inside and out(nothing more magical), new Christmas balls for the tree, some lovely blue bubble short tumblers to match my theme of eclectic turquoise, red and silver (a bit morrocan) an eclectic mix of tablewear to mix with my classic white, plenty of pillar candles, fresh towels for any guests that decde to extend their visit and some extra seating with a couple of red bean bags and top off with some bon bons. Look how much I can get with $180!!!

  5. I am doing a silver and pink (favourite colour) Christmas theme this year so the Silver Xmas wreath for the front door would be awesome as well as some of those luxe Christmas baubles for the tree.
    Thanks!

  6. After a long road, I'm pregnant! So I'd spend the $180 starting our set up, maybe 3 bonds wondersuits ($48), two packs of dri bots terry towelling nappies ($30), a 3 pack of muslin wraps in cloud grey ($10) and maybe the the playgro jungle jungle gym ($99) ... $7 over budget isn't too bad! If I was feeling cheeky, I think I'd swap out the wondersuits for some new pillows for us ... because we are in desperate need! x

  7. I'd buy the cobalt asymmetrical dress to wear on the day!

  8. We travel quite a bit over Christmas, heading back to NSW to spend it with family in various locations. Next year's our turn, though, and I've been dreaming already of Christmas lights. Thousands of tiny fairylights. Inside and out. Target's solar-powered LED fairylights are calling to me at the moment.

  16. Beautiful, beautiful set-up! I am a total traditionalist in our Christmas fare, always a real tree, I have lots of white and linen and jute or rope decorations, a red hydrangea wreath for the door, hessian stockings for the mantle. This is our first Christmas in this home (and last year we were living on the road) so I'm excited to start decking the halls. As we're in an isolated area though I'm struggling to find a real Christmas tree supplier! I see a long drive in my near future to source one. I dream of one day hosting my family in our home for Christmas, one day. At the moment we all descend upon Mum's still, my four siblings, partners and rambuctious children. My Mum is in her absolute element cooking five different roast meats (yes, it's madness, turkey, chicken, a leg of ham, pork + seafood + roast vegetables, then pudding and VERY brandy cream + gingerbread house). I so look forward to when we one day have our own children to celebrate Christmas, that's what it's all about, the giving and the being thankful and the celebrating miracles and the Christmas story. From Target I'd love the 'faith' angel for our mantle, or the set of star tumblers, they look pretty! The set of numero placemats would suit our home nicely, as well as acacia wood cheese board. Oh! And I would LOVE the marakesh quilt cover set, our bedroom needs a jzush up. Am I over $180 yet?! Oops. Living where we do I survive off the Target website! Our nearest Target is a 6 hour round trip.

  19. My husband and I have been living with our respective parents, two hours away from each other, for the past few months whilst we save cash to move to the big smoke together. It's been a bit rough. I unashamedly would spend the loot on nesting the crap out of our new place. I seriously can't wait to live with my manfriend again AND to get all my treasures out of boxes in the shed. I'd splurge on some lovely crisp white Target bedding, the Hampton hot pink salad bowl (because, hot pink) and some Tivoli tumblers to toast strong G&Ts to being in the same city/grownups again.

  20. So much loveliness - I think I would spend the voucher on some new things for our Christmas table and decorations (I am having family to my house this year for the first time). I am loving the sparkle placemats and it is great how the Target Christmas lights have their own sturdy storage.
Also a new kettle - we will have a house full of guests and our existing kettle is a bit past it.

  30. That table looks magical and the blue and pink look stunning!
I really think with the voucher I would treat my poor little bed to a beautiful new look! Something like the Real Living Amber Rose or Dotty quilt set and some scatter cushions would be so fresh for summer, especially considering the poor bed has had no new linen swing its way since our wedding ........7 years ago!!!

  31. I would splash out and get a couple of the Talitha Printed Cushion's, add a splash of colour to my table with the Hampton Lidded Salad Bowl - Hot Pink and a Set Of 4 Footed Bowls - Orange / Pink, get a set of the amazing Vinery Set Of 4 Red Wine Glasses (nice and large, which is how I like my wine served) and get the Hot Options Paisley Print Hi-Lo Lace Back Maxi that I have been eyeing off!! I know it sounds like a lot, but that's why I love Target, my money goes a long way! xx

  33. For the first time in my families history (truely), we are having what I call an Aussie Christmas! Farewell hot roast w meats of 3 kindsw all the sides on a stinking hot day, hello fresh icy seafood! Hooray. AND I am hosting. Yes, I actually had to host to make this ground breaking event happen. So, never having hosted that many people (11 adults and 5 kids) in my home, I would buy Naples short tumblers water glass packs x 3, cake plate w dome x 2 for cheese platters, bling table cloths in white x 2 and my first chef's apron in red for me so I look the part! Wish me luck!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'd buy new towels and sheets FOR SURE. I so desperately need both (I have one pair of King Size Bed sheets - and a co-sleeper...) but just always seem to have something else to spend money on. Target towels/sheets are great quality and value for money and it would feel entirely indulgent to have fluffy new towels. Like a grown up even!

  35. Our Christmas tablescape this year has been inspired by this cocktail-
    http://www.bakeaholicmama.com/2013/11/pomegranate-and-rosemary-white-sangria.html
Would love a set of the Confetti wine glasses to serve these yummy cocktails.
To match our cocktails, we are using a colour scheme of red and gold with sprigs of rosemary and lots of succulents to furnish the table.
So I would love to get a Bling white tablecloth and then use one of the ikat table runners. I'd then use some of the red Sparkle placemats.
I'd love to let my inner-Pinterest-(wannabe)-queen out and use some gold paint to try and recreate these-
    http://www.pinterest.com/pin/248964685624407462/
I could use the Set of 4 footed bowls to try and recreate these and then I'd plant some succulents in the bowls and position them into between long springs of rosemary laced together with red and gold pom pom garlands.
I'd spend a few dollars on a couple of packs of the red and gold baubles and maybe recreate this hanging decoration above the kitchen island.... http://www.pinterest.com/pin/248964685624343781/

Have I used up the $180 yet? Can you tell I am SUPER excited about decorating for Christmas this year??! Could be because it's my baby's first Christmas. So if I have a few dollars left over, I'd buy her the red and white ribbon trim dress for the big day.

As we are hosting Christmas Eve this year I would definitely buy the exact table centre pieces you have I LOVE them :) And then we need a nice new table cloth. And with the rest I feel like we have so much and we are so blessed I would buy something for someone less fortunate.
Have a merry christmas and enjoy that incredible beautiful table x

And lots of glittery reindeer to appear on Christmas Day.
An outfit or two for Mr Moo's first Christmas,
Would round out my spending - I hope I didn't miss much.

  44. Oh my goodness so much loveliness here!. I spotted those tumblers a few weeks ago in the catalogue and fell in love but the forgot about them, thank you so much for jolting my memory in such a glorious way, the blue looks beautiful (especially against your Featherston) :). I would love to get two or three sets of the tumblers in different colours to mix and match for some festive season fun. I'm hosting lunch this year so some napery would also be so great and I noticed there were some ikat/ chevron patterns available on the site which I'm loving. This year our plans involve chilled Caipirinhas, Peking Duck with all the trimmings, ice cream Plum Pudding for dessert and lots of old skool carols...oh and I'm also going to encrust some champagne bottles in ombre glitter for a bit of sparkle. Wishing you a happy festive season :) Tina

  45. Yes we are hosting a Christmas meal and being the unorganised hostess I am, I find to do lists invaluable at this time of year. When ever I start getting stressed, I sit down with a hot cuppa, peruse my list and instantly start feeling more in control.

  46. I'd love to purchase some glittery holiday items to add to our table!

  47. Oooh, the colours are just perfect Em! I have to work christmas this year so we are having a nice low key one. If I won, I'd love to put the money towards a swing set for the kids, (i loved the one you showed us from target not long back) xxx

  48. With the Target bucks I would buy a bunch of frames (like the 3 Window Landscape Photo Frame 20.3 x 61cm in White or the Window Photo Frame 25 x 33cm in Black) because I have some lovely pictures and also two original prints that I want to put up. I would paint that white one gold and give it to y mother-in-law with family pictures in it.

I'm not hosting the festivities this year because my mother-in-law is; though that doesn't mean I don't need to prepare. People will be here Christmas Eve, and I have big plans for my mantlepiece! I think I'm going to use cut green swaths of pine and a bunch of these Metal Merry Christmas Balls in Red : http://shop.target.com.au/p/metal-merry-christmas-ball-red/54174436 from Target.

  51. This year will be my last Christmas with my parents as they will go back to the UK after only a year here when it was supposed to be forever so I will make it extra long and extra specials with as many spectacular dishes as I can mangage and a decor to match for pictures to treasure forever. My voucher would be spent on some of that fabulous glassware and I am totally stealing the cloche idea.. A center piece to last a lifetime.. Lastly I am grabbing a popcorn machine and covering the offerings with cinnamon sugar for the kids ..

  52. With Tully just crawling and pulling himself up we aren't having a tree this year but making paper decorations for the windows. If I won the voucher it would be fairy lights for sure to hang up on our front window and weave through our balcony. It overlooks our front yard which is a veggie patch so it would look festive and really cool outside and inside the house.

Can't wait. I just love decorating the table but I'm continually told off by my foodie family members for not leaving enough room for food! Firstly I choose a theme then go wild....this year would be "Fairy's Christmas" - starting at the top of the tree with the white flower fairy with wand and then masses of silver and white baubles and white twinkling lights. The table settings would be in white and silver with the sparkle placemats and star glasses....wow this is nearly as fun as decorating our own christmas table for real!

If I win I will buy the Christmas tree with the money and ornaments. I want to gift each of my kids a special ornament per year so they can have them with they have their own first Christmas tree. Oh, did I mention that my birthday is on Christmas day? So I have double the reasons to go all out and celebrate. One last thing, I love your decor. I love that it is not traditional, not red and green. I will follow your color scheme. kperales25{at}aol.com

As for Christmas, we're actually going to my brother's house this year but my mom and I are making side dishes to bring along and for our home we put up the tree and put lights on the stair rail outside and a wreath on our door!

I spied lots of goodies in Target Large Glittery Reindeer ($15 each), Frosted Bowls in Pink ($15), Hampton Lidded Salad Bowl in Pink ($25), Large Rectangle Tray in lime/pink ($24) - great for carrying festive drinks, Urban Green Table Runner, 8 pack Swirl Christmas Balls - to put down the table or in a big glass jar, 6 pack Glass Votive Candle Holders($2.40). The target card would definitely ease the burden, thanks for the chance and hope your xmas is magical :)

  84. I would buy myself a couple of items of clothing for summer, some Christmas decorations to give the home a Christmas feel as there is no space for tree in my 1 bed apartment this year :(. With what's left over I'd be using that for a couple of Christmas gifts that I have planned but haven't got around to purchasing yet.

  96. We are planning on spending most of the day on our deck overlooking the creek, where we can catch the cool breeze all day while nibbling on a massive cold feast of ham, chicken, prawns, salads, pavlova, trifle and fruit. As it is semi-outdoors, I'd love to decorate the table with:
-Set Of 4 Sparkle Placemats - Red
-12 Piece Stars Dinnerset - Red
-16 Piece Cutlery Set With Tray - Red (notice the red theme I've got going here? lol)
-Poinsettia Footed Cake Stand - White/Silver (to display my magnificent pavlova on!)
-some pretty decorations to scatter around the table
-and lastly, a set of White Flashing Solar Fairy Lights (250), so as the sun goes down, the deck lights up with twinkling lights :)

  102. Beautiful decorations! Unfortunately all our relatives live overseas so it makes it very hard to organise family get-togethers especially with the commotion around Christmas. But this year we're planning to have a Skype-together and get everyone on video chat to make our Christmas a little merrier so we'll definitely be decorating our living room! It'll have the usual white fairylights, cut-out snowflakes & silver baubles, but because this Christmas will be a little more special, we're going to try to make huge cardboard silhouettes of reindeers against the wall :-)

  103. I might start with some fun drinking glasses...and then check for a new tree on after-Christmas clearance. Our little $5 one is beloved, but it sheds like crazy. :)
    Thanks for the opportunity!
