They Follow The Sun

My kids spend a lot of time at the kitchen table - meal times, puzzle times, craft times and play dough times.

Over the winter months though, they gravitated to their typical spot much less frequently than usual. Preferring to be on the lounge or near the dappled light of front windows as it snuck through the bare branches of the Magnolia. There they would build duplo towers, pillow towers and human towers before toppling said towers over.

But with the arrival of Spring I have found them at the kitchen table once again. With their chests bare and the sun on their backs they play and chatter, chatter and play until the backyard beckons them.

As I rush from room to room and task to task, it's lovely to pass them sitting there contentedly. You know, nothing has changed 'round here expect where the light hits the gizzards of our home, but that light has changed the way we do things.

Don't you love the way the seasons really do guide our lifestyle.*

Do you find yourself and your children gravitating to the sunny spots?

*except we've returned to that 5.30 am wake up. curse.

  1. I have noticed this in our home too!
Our bedroom gets the best sun during Winter, which is perfect for lazy Sundays when all you want to do is stay in your pj's and catch up on blog-reading (not good for productivity on Monday morning!)
With Springs arrival we've become drawn back out to the kitchen and living room as they get the best sunshine all throughout the day. We're back to rising with the sun, enjoying breakfast together in the living room and reading a good book on the couch in warm, dappled light from the front windows.
As much as I curse at this house for its crappy wiring and lack of insulation, I'll always remember it for its big windows and beautiful sunshine-y rooms!

    1. how gloriously GOOD is a bedroom with winter sun? Ours gets it from 2pm and man, I love it.

Now riddle me this, you have no children (except the fur babies) yet you rise with the sun? are you nuts?

  2. I hear you on the early wake-ups. Today's wake up was 6:15am and I'm dreading the return of the 5:30am!

  3. The reason we bought our house was the huge north facing windows on a hill. We are suffused by sunlight through winter. Any hint of sun is caught and cherished. The baby has dangerous nappy free kicks in the pools of sunlight. I play kitten and follow the sun through the room. Though we initially wanted the room as the adult retreat in our home, it has become the playroom, and who could begrudge the kids the happiness that comes with warmth and light? Glad your tribe are kittens too.

  6. It's the same for us too. Our front room gets all the sun in the morning until the evening and I find that during Winter, it's the best place to be. Sitting eating breakkie and reading blogs.

  8. Yes, o yes. Sun certainly changes the mood.
That is one hell of a play dough lump! It beats the little tiny tubs you buy at Target!
