Over the past few weeks Dave and I have systematically purged our office space. We have thrown out junk, scrubbed walls, dusted blinds, touched up holes and mopped the floors. We have relocated all of my art and craft supplies to the studio and even managed to find some space in the wardrobe for wonder suits and wraps.
It is officially a baby room now and our house is officially full.
For this space I was inspired by this design board created by the beautiful and talented Briar Stanley. I went about sourcing as many products as I could as well as gathering special items that I had collected over time- some furniture from my youth, some treasures from friends and of course the usual old faithful items that are both practical and sturdy.
I had the bee stickers custom made by Look Sugar after seeing Rebekka Seale's stamped walls- I just couldn't resist their perfection but didn't want something that might be difficult to paint over. It offers a wall papered effect with out allowing for this kind of disaster.
When I first found out I was pregnant I bought the 1920's vintage mirror from Alison at Bayside Vintage, knowing that it would be perfect for a nursery when the time came. It's such a treasure and I'm so happy to finally have it on the wall.
The chest of draws was my 16th Birthday present from my parents and has since been painted white (for Pippi's Nursery) and had new handles from Uniquely Exotic on Ebay. Atop the draws sits a mirror my dad bought for me from a garage sale many, many light years ago, a set of Russian dolls gifted to me by a friend when I was working in retail (also many light years ago) and a simple circle artwork by I Need Nice Things. An embroidery hoop holds a section of a vintage tea towel while the yellow feather is by none other than Made by Mosey.
I bought the cot for $99 from IKEA and topped it with a delicious pure linen quilt from Lovely Home Idea. It crushes and crumples just as I hoped it would.
The small set of shelves beside the window were made by Dave and are filled with special trinkets and mementos including a miniature vintage chest that my sister in law gave me for my twenty-something birthday, a photo of my parents in the 70's and carved wooden boxes collected from adventures past.
Because i'm a creature of habit and slightly fussy, the change table set up is exactly the same as it has been for each of my babies. I like the nappies (both cloth for spills and disposables) to be stored in baskets under the change table along with pyjamas and a selection of simply toys to offer a distraction for baby when needed. This time I've included some crocheted baskets made by a beautiful friend (who is soon to open an online store) along with some hand printed linen buckets by Lumiere. The baskets mounted on the wall above hold the wipes and other essential 'change time' items.
For me, the highlight of the room is the amazing Boucherouite Rug from Beyond Marrakech. It offers warmth, colour and texture- three of my favourite things.
So, now all we need to do is bring a baby home from Hospital and... well, have it sleep in a cradle next to my bed for 6 months before it moves into it's perfectly lovely room :)
I suspect the next time you hear from me it will be with a very exciting announcement!
See you soon, friends :)
