This Boy, My Love Heart

Four Years ago today I became a mum to this sweet child. Every day since he has caused me to look at myself and shape up, for his sake. He is my challenge, my joy, my love. He is brighter than the sun, bright yellow and all shimmery.

Over the past few months I have taken immense pleasure in seeing him really grow. He is more patient, more gentle, more kind and has a greater ability to harness his emotions and control them. My honey child, if you can start get a hold of that at 4, you're doing remarkably well.

Today we celebrated with some of his friends. They indulged in packet cake with packet icing and a plethora of cheap, nasty shop biscuits. I didn't hear one single complaint either.

Zephiebomb, my goodness boy, you will only ever know how much we love you when you have your own babe in arms.

Grow well, young man, Grow in God.

Same day last year

  1. Awe Man Em! He' so gorgeous and how you speak of him reminds me of what I think of my Jasper firstborn (almost 3 year old). "Grow in God" - possibly the most important single best thing to end this post on, and what an amazing blessing for him to have parents that teach him Gods ways.

  2. ah, he is beautiful. he seems so much bigger than my little to-be-four-soon guy. Perhaps it's the hair. Perhaps it's my own denial. Glad you had an ace (and perfectly reasonable) celebration. x sarah

  5. This post caused a lump in my throat! 'you will only ever know how much we love you when you have your own babe in arms' - when I had Ronan I recall thanking my parents for loving me as much as they do - cause it was only then that I really understood the love. Happy Birthday to your bog four year old...can you believe you have a four year old!?!?

  7. wow, I haven't been around recently, but maybe it's something in this picture - but this is the first time I've seen the face of a young man. Sending happy birthday wishes to him and restful, relaxing ones to you. x

My boys are disappointed now if I dont go with packet cake, and the betty crocker tub of icing that they can decorate their own cakes with!

Side note... what sort of plates are in the top photo a few posts back...mud? urban Cartel? Lurrrrrv them...

  21. My little man has just turned 4 too - it is such a joy to watch him master new things; his hand written name is popping up on pieces of paper found all over the house, conversations are detailed and reflective, always singing, dancing and crafting. I love 4 year olds!
Your words "Grow well, young man, Grow in God." are perfect!
