These Two, They Go Surfing
Dave loves the ocean. Each weekend she taunts and tempts him with her quivering mass of blue and each weekend the question is posed 'when will I get a surf in?'
It would be a lie to say this love affair never caused tension between he and I. If I'm honest, I'd rather keep him to myself all weekend every weekend but we often manage to compromise.
On this occasion while the Lady Baby slept and I lazed about, Dave packed Zeph into the car and a long board on top of it. With their caps on and boardies in the back, they kissed me goodbye and reversed out of the drive, arms waving as they went.
Together, the two of them.
Look at their gorgeous faces. I don't know who was more excited but I can see the pride all over Dave's face.
After the'd gone I found a salty tear in the corner of my eye.
My boy is growing up.

ReplyDeleteIt's funny, I've got a 10 month old and it's heaven when my husband takes him for a ride and gives me half an hour. Though I'm sure at some point I'll be sad that he is happier with dad than me. Gorgeous photos.

That's so sweet Em :) And as for babies growing too fast - I'm facing the same problem. I want to hit the pause button but I know that'll only be for my selfish reasons :(

Oh I know those looks, those excitable boyish looks. My big boy gets that same awe-induced expression when he's heading off on a mission with his Dada. It starts young doesn't it? And it makes me quite emotional also, happy... but in an emotional way. Gorgeous snaps Em xo
ReplyDeleteLove those pictures, and that's so sweet that they go surfing together!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! My son loves to go to swimming lessons with is Dad. There's something so special about a father-son relationship!
ReplyDelete"my boy is growing up" haha for a moment I thought you were talking about Dave! ;-) Yes, it is good when Dad and take the kids for some special time together. I have two boys and fear that the day will come when they too want to join their Dad at an activity exclusive to them. I have no Lady Baby to be exclusive with! Nevermind, it is cool for boys to sew, knit and bake. . . no? xx
ReplyDeleteabsolutely cool!
DeleteMy partner has several mistresses, his motorbike - Ranga, his guitars, and his love of band photography which takes him to gigs at nights and steals him away for weekends when it is a festivals. Lucky for me Jarvis is only old enough to share one of these with Justin. They often go into the 'man-cave' and play guitars together. I am so dreading when Jarvis is old enough to ride a bike and go to gigs.

I can see the FUZZ all over Dave's face! My man and yours could have some serious beard conversations.
ReplyDelete(Also, beautiful post. Nothing fills me with more pride than seeing the kids have special times with their Dad. It is so precious.)
You have captured a truly spectacular moment here! I lurrrv it.
ReplyDeleteAnd with no3 on the way... a good habit you might enjoy!
I agreed to accompany my Hubby and Son to a game of Golf a few weeks back (actually they said I could ride the buggy) Wowsers. Seeing Father and Son in their zone... and I mean ..THEIR ZONE. It's a sacred space. It truly is. The activity is really not even what it's all about. Yeah? It's the passion being passed on like a baton in a relay. Father to Son to Grandson. I left the game with so much more respect for the act of hitting your little white ball and then looking for it only to hit it again (they were very gracious when I described it thusly) And I smiled when we hopped in the car to leave, hearing my Son say to Hubby... "Thanks Dad that was awesome. Not the golf... we played like crap.... but THAT was still awesome" ... ♥♥♥ PS - Love your blog. With a capital L Xx
ReplyDeleteit really is one of the most special things, huh. For both of them!

p.s thank you for your kind words about the blog :)
ahhh lovely men! my boys nearly 3 and going to nursery soon! sob!
ReplyDeletethose surfers! I'm friends with a couple and one in particular LOVES the sea. His car smells like wetsuits and usually has a waxy board in the back. Where we live you have to have full wetsuits+hoods all year round pretty much so it's only for the truly dedicated/warm blooded. Love zeph's wee face especially, he looks so excited. x
