A New Design
For the past few weeks i've been woking with Talia from Talia Christine on a new blog design. And finally, it is here!
This one is stripped back, super simple and ready for a collaborative project you'll be seeing here over the coming months.
So tell me, what was your initial reaction?
I showed my friend Nat last night and she gasped 'oh noo, i liked the old one more'... but after looking for a few moments, she came round!
It's quite bare over on the top right there but I'm keen on the white space.
Have a click around, let me know what you think!

More commercial..not as homey. Sophisticated...definitely gives you a different image.
ReplyDeletevery streamlined, easy to read and follow
ReplyDeletedifferent to the first one, but still awesome!
My initial reaction is that I like the old one better too, but if this works for you, it's all good. Same place, just a new look. Right?

I think its gorgeous. I liked the old one too and although I wonder if this is as "you" as the old look it definitely has punch! Rock it!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice and clean looking and very uncluttered, which I like. Perhaps the old design had a little more "personality"? But I'm easily pleased and think both are/were lovely. To be honest, I usually read your posts through Google Reader so I actually don't often click through to see the page design so it probably doesn't matter too much to me.
ReplyDeletelove it, i love a bit of white space to relax your eyeballs on x
ReplyDeleteI love the new design. Love that photo, too. Just beautiful. Kellie xx
ReplyDeleteHonestly? I like this, but preferred the old design. It was fruity, homely, a little bit whimsical, and very much unique to you. But, then, my blog is stock standard ugly, so who am I to talk?! I'll keep coming here regardless of how it looks, Em. x
ReplyDeleteAlways like a bit of trade gothic (typeface) the colour help soften it and make it feel beachy. But I really did think the old design was a welcoming handshake that introduced you.
ReplyDeleteBut if this works for future projects, it's got me interested to see what they are

I like this one...I like the fruity colours...but I preferred the old one...I thought it was more you?
ReplyDeleteAdmittedly I am not one to readily embrace change!
And like the others, I will still come to read what you write and to look at your beautiful pictures no matter how the blog looks!
I like the last one better. This is too similar to Chantelle's blog Fat Mum Slim.
ReplyDeleteI liked the old one better. Stay true to yourself!
ReplyDeleteI think your branding was quite strong in the previous design, it had a distinct flavour that was all you. This current design is clean but non descript and Leaves me a little cold.
ReplyDeleteGives a totally different feel to the old one - I'm not against it, it's just a big visual change. Nice and clean, easy to figure out where to click!
ReplyDeleteI like it, and if it is paving the way for a new project, then that's even better - double high fives to projects!
ReplyDeleteI love it em, white is good for the eyeballs! I love love the blues in your header. everyone has secret squirrel business going on... I am so intrigued! and perhaps, erm.. a little green ;) xx
ReplyDeleteWell, I liked the old one too - and this one feels very, very different - but this is your blog, so you get to choose, right? And anything involving a new project is always exciting. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteaaahhh... much better. Room to breathe! I really like it!! Love the larger photos with just the one sidebar too... it's addictive - I'm thinking of going even bigger again with my photos! x
ReplyDeleteI love it. Look at the size of your photos, they're HUGE! Which is a good thing, they are always soooo beautiful. Do you just chase rays of sunlight around?
ReplyDeleteI love the bigger photo's and regardless of what it looks like I will definitely continue reading. I have to say though, that it's a little sterile...I think if I was a new reader though, the new layout wouldn't make me want to stick around. In fact, I find it a lot like Fat Mum Slim's and I didn't continue reading her blog as I felt no connection with her or the layout of her blog. The new one does have nice qualities, but it's lacking the personality of the old. Geez I hate saying negative things... You and your blog are awesome and no matter what your layout is like, you rock!
ReplyDeleteI loved the old one, but this is great too, it puts me in mind of a 50's film poster for some reason. It seems less homely and more beachy?!
ReplyDeleteBeing a long time reader of your lovely blog I was initially a little taken back. But after a few moments I fell in love with it.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I come here for content (and adorable pictures) more than anything. It could look anyway you like and I will still stop by. Good on you for keeping it fresh and making a change.
After I get past the header, I like it. It showcases your photos beautifully. You do have to delve more as a new reader to find "you" - something that struck me instantly on your old one. But, change is good and you should do what works for you :) x
ReplyDeleteI actually quite like it Em, it is simple, and with your new found photography skills I think it will show these off! I come for the content too, and I love how big the photos come up too, xx
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. Very modern and clean. But I'm afraid I liked the old one better too. It seemed warmer and more personal. :)
ReplyDeleteI think it's really nice :-) One thing I don't get, however, is the reason for large photos. I usually view blogs on a laptop and It means I have to scroll over the picture. I prefer to see all of an image at once. But that's just me. :-) All the people who don't like it will get used to it for sure. xx
ReplyDeletehaha I just looked at my own images and the portrait ones are too tall to be seen all at once ....... so there you go im a complete hypocrite, you should disregard my comment about large photos! Also it was more a comment on something Ive noticed recently around blogs, not yours in particular ! xx
DeleteI love it Em, white space is good. xx
ReplyDeleteI had to come back and say that I do like it...didn't make that really clear in my first comment! Sorry!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with a few others that this does very much remind me of Fat Mum Slim and i stopped reading her blog when she changed the layout. I like lots of white space and simplicity though so that works. I think the photos are too big, too much scrolling needed.
ReplyDeleteI like it, a change is as good as a holiday (so they say) I'll keep reading regardless of design, it's the pics and content that I love..... :) :)

ReplyDeleteooh initially i was like "i like the old one too" but now that I look longer, i kinda like the simple and sweet new look!
ReplyDeleteI like the new one. It's simple and clean, and filled with lots of lovely white space. It's perhaps less busy looking than your old one which shows off your photos and content more. :)
ReplyDeleteOoh change gives us mums the willies doesn't it:)
ReplyDeleteI liked the old one for all reasons outlined above. I like the colour palette in the new one but I'm not a minimalist so the white comes across as a bit too "cool" for me...I'll still visit though as I am rooting for you...want to see your confidence in yourself continue to bloom!
Two thumbs up.... with an approval nod and a smile :-)
ReplyDeleteWhen I opened it I thought exactly this "oh; different, thank goodness"
ReplyDelete'Stuff' stresses me out!!! I love how simple this looks; excuse me while I steal some of your formatting ideas for myself *cough*
ox
I LOVE your new layout.
ReplyDeleteMy first reaction was yep love your new look, love the clean look of it:)
ReplyDeleteLove it:)
ReplyDeleteI've been lurking around your blog for a while, but I'm not sure I've ever commented. I'll be honest- I have already forgotten what the old blog looked like! Which is totally a reflection of my addled brain- not that your old layout was forgettable! I usually read blogs in my reader like someone else said, but clicked across this time to see your new layout. I do like it. Easy to read, with your pics taking centre stage- which sounds about right to me!
ReplyDeleteI like it more than the last as it’s less cluttered - but then I’m always attracted to clean, minimal looking blogs - personal tastes and all that. My only little suggestion (kill me if you wanna) is to align your photos ‘left’ when you do a post - then it’ll line up with the text. I’m guessing you always ‘central’ then?? Like I said, tell me to f-off if I’m being annoying. Overall, looking lovely :) xxx
ReplyDeleteI love it! I must find some time to respond to your email. But your new blog is beautiful - I like a good spring clean! xxxx
ReplyDeletereally like the look of the new design - nice work em and talia!
ReplyDelete(although, i did like the previous one too)
keen to see what this new collaboration will entail...!
bel. x
i like it. like the simplicity, the colours and the white blank space. mmmm very nice x
ReplyDeleteI'm new to your blog, but I love it. A new design can inspire new ideas, so why not? :)
ReplyDeleteI loved your old header, the colours and busyness was lovely. However this one has a very beach/surf vibe so suits you too. mel x
ReplyDeleteLove it but agree with others above...please reduce size of the photos!
ReplyDeleteAs I've said before Em, love your writing, your stories, your photos, your honesty. I know none of that will change, so I'll be around here for a long time to come. But I must admit, I ADORED your little colourful drops, thought they were beautiful. This is super sleek and clean though, so it will grow on me too :) xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful. So much fun when you have a change!
ReplyDeleteLove it. Woman you're so stylish with your fancy new blog and all. Can't wait to hear about this exciting new collaboration too xx
ReplyDeleteI like it. :)
ReplyDeleteAudra @ Audra's Ally
i love it em. clean and simple. very fresh. have a happy long weekend.xo
ReplyDeleteHi! Its so clean and plenty of beautiful white space, but I must say, I was so i love with your colourful, crazy unique drops...regardless I will be a fan forever no matter what and change is always good! xo
ReplyDeleteI haven't been around long enough to get used to the old design, so that might affect my perception: but I love it. The color is beautiful and clean. I am learning to allow white space, myself! I have to fight the urge to fill everything with something, if that makes any sense.
ReplyDeleteI really like it too - nice and simple, easy to read, great colours. It's like your blog has suddenly become all grown up and very profesh! As others have said, it did instantly remind me of the new Fat Mum Slim logo, but obviously this still has your beautiful words and pictures stamped all over it. Very excited to see what your big project is too! x
ReplyDeleteIn my totally non expert opinion, it seems to me that there is a mismatch between the way you describe yourself in your about (eg fruity hues, loudly & large etc) and the overall "look and feel" of the blog now. Your previous design seemed more in tune if that makes sense. Given that - if it's your intention to move away from the original "look and feel" to a more minimalist, "taken more seriously, this is a business" vibe - then that is what I take away from the new look. It's neither good nor bad - but it does feel a bit more formal.
ReplyDeleteEm, im gonna be honest. I like your other one more, I would have got Talia (who is talented btw, and sweet in real life;) to design a 'fruity-er' version of the last one. We all now you love colour and juice, so why stick with the simple impact font and minimalist approach? Also, blue..nice colour...but where are all the other matchy/mismatchy hues? Ps did you get my facebook mail? x
ReplyDeleteIve just looked again, and noticed the photos are bigger/wider, I like that. Also, I like the orange font that features as the titles above the posts...something positive from me!:)
ReplyDeleteLove it.. love the white space, love the fruity colours and adore the one sidebar.. not a fan of distractions on both side of what I am reading ..
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Em and very you.. now that I know you well I would actually say the old one was a bit to old for you as you are only a subdued nanna at heart but a bubbly soda pop on the outside..
LOVE IT x
Love it - looks awesome :)
ReplyDeleteI really like it. I mean, the other one was fruitier and it was gorg too, but there is something simple and clean about this one that is perfect for summer.
ReplyDeleteI love you for you Em- and whatever the online space looks like its your words and images that bring me back. I am not a design purist- I don't have the eye or the knowledge. I liked it before and I like it now. Hope you find the best 'fit' for you. Excited for the upcoming collaborations. Jo xx
ReplyDeleteahhhh i love it!
ReplyDeleteenter my betsey johnson giveaway!
Love it, I like the 'uncluttered' look, somehow it makes it easier to read!!!
ReplyDeletewell this certainly got everyone talking! I really love the layout, uncluttered lines make me happy. The single sidebar is gooooood. everything is easy to find, and that's important, isn't it? white is lovely, i'm so sick of mine. i adored your last header, but i'm also a bit in love with orange and blue, yum. the fonts are ones that I like. and look at that, the content is still ace. so yeah. stick it out for a week, see what happens. i'm intrigued to see what's next...:)sarah (from the central coast, man, can i borrow a cup of sugar?)
ReplyDeleteBoring. Pics to big. But will continue to read so not a bother just my view.
ReplyDeleteMmmm.. I think I liked the old one too. This one is very similar to Fat Mum Slim's design.
ReplyDeleteBut love your blog and think you are a very entertaining writer :) Will still be dropping by everyday xo
I love your old design. I agree that it felt more friendly and homely and not as commercial. But this is still pretty and very streamlined. Just depends what you're after =)
ReplyDeleteIt looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeletexx
It's always cute to see little kids trying to garden. I like how the shovel is bigger then she is.
