Beginnings: A Wood Fired Pizza Oven

We collected blocks, mixed mortar and laid them. The sun was still rising as we excitedly began building our wood fired pizza oven.

In a quest for some kind of self sufficiency, we've decided to dedicate much of our front yard to vegetable growing. Spring is approaching and we are eager to have a large usable plot to feed our family. The asparagus is shooting after just a few short weeks and the snow peas are finally flowering. Soon enough we'll have tomatoes, egg plant and garlic at the ready, we thought a wood fired pizza oven would be the perfect companion for such summer delicacies.

So we started building one, naturally.

Over the coming weeks i'll share with you our progress (and spare you the mini squabbles).

Watch this space.

p.s my kids are cute (even with boogers) and my husband is hot. just sayin'. Oh, our front yard is also a mess... ramble ramble ramble.

p.p.s am i over doing it on the photo front? too many pics? It's just that i'm obsessed with my new camera.

  4. I have always had this dream of opening up an open air cafe that only serves wood-fired pizza...there would be a big garden where people could pick their own ingredients and people could make their own. The only problem is that I live in Scotland where it rains 362 days a year...

  9. Lovely pics, if I had a half decent camera, I'd be using more photos & less words! We really need to get off our tooshies and plant some vegies, our vege patch is pitiful at the moment, overgrown with weeds, looking forward to seeing your pizza oven come together and the vegies being put to use, YUM!

  10. No, the pics are lovely, don't stop taking and showing us them! Such a good idea to build an oven - I tried to convince my husband that we needed one but he was having none of it. To be fair, we don't cook or eat outside that much with our crappy climate...maybe if we lived in Australia I could justify it! x
