Hold the Phone

Like I said yesterday, we've been hit by yet another round of the boogers. It's been several nights since Dave and I have enjoyed the luxury of having the bed to ourselves, the kids are constantly covered in snot and salty tears can be found rolling down the cheeks of little ones at any time of the day or night.

Our weekend plans will be canceled in favour of couch slouching in the hope of recovering more quickly.

Despite the snot fest, I find myself feeling incredibly blessed.

Blessed with warm beds covered in woollen blankets, a husband who can stay home from work for that extra hour until everyone is fed and dressed. Blessed with parents who'll look after me and wipe my kids grubby faces with warm washers before making us toasted sandwiches (thanks dad).

The days have been slow and quiet and I'm revelling in extra cuddles and my new happiness.

Tell me you've got exciting plans for the weekend. Go on, do it.

  1. It very much makes you appreciate the times you are well and healthy huh! Praying for 'good health and happiness' is often a daily ritual said in our prayers and is so under-rated when we are all healthy and well, but at times when we're 'boogered-up' its pretty darn high on our prayer/happiness list...just the simple things in life...health, childrearing, family and love.
    x (enjoy your new 60d)

  4. We'll be 'joining you' in couch slouching. School phoned me to pick River up early today he has fever, chills a cough - the works! Like you I am savouring the blessings - the warmth of our wood fire, the nourishment of home made chicken soup and being together. Rest well and here's to speedy recoveries all round x

  5. We have nothing planned. We cancelled our exciting weekend last week as both Bub and I were very sick. Now I am better but Bub has moved on to another virus. So it's booger-town here too.
Do your kids always come sleep in your bed when they are sick? This is Bub's first illness and he is spending most of the night in my arms in our bed. I was worried it may become a 'thing' but it reassures me to read that our mum's do it too.

    1. Hey lady,

ohhh yes, we SOOO do it too!! We just go with whatever gets us all some sleep.

most of the time when they are sick, they call out and we choose to put them into bed with us rather than stay awake for long enough to put them back down!

most little 'things' pass quickly (although giving our Zeph a cup of milk at bed time took a good 6 months to kick!) and without tooo much fuss.... but with some fuss, naturally.

      ramble, ramble, ramble!

  6. As much as I fear my kid getting sick, once it happens there is a kind of slowness to life that I like and usually need. At the moment we're all pretty healthy but wouldn't mind the weekend plans being filled with lots of couch slouching. Maybe I can fit it in... Hope everyone feels better soon.

  7. This sounds like my life right now. LOL. We are a world away, but so much is still the same. Plans are about to be canceled because despite it being 100 degrees, my little peanut has a fever. So, I'm just spending the day reveling in her adorableness. (My older daughter went to grandma's.) It's peaceful, wonderful, and you're right- different than the things that I got to do before, but better! Great observation, and thank you for sharing.

  8. Oh no, I hope your kids get well soon so you can have some sleep! We are planning fruit picking, gardening, and the school summer fair this weekend. All that depends on no rain. So if it rains, we will be watching a lot of TV.

  9. Oh get well soon. My weekend will be spent relaxing after frantically writing school reports for my classes. Maybe even breakfast with the bloke and a car boot sale visit on Sunday morning. I am always in need of more thrifted goodies! xx

  12. Yep it's sick central at our place too. Liongirl has been cracking 39 plus fevers now since Thursday night, sleep has been thin on the ground and the 40th birthday party we were supposed to be at tonight is rocking on without us- sick child and sick grandma babysitter not a good combo! On the upside we had chinese takeaway and will loll around watching tellie and blogging the eve away. I think the fabric may well have been a curtain- don't they make the best shorts? Hope the snotfest passes quickly at your place. melx

  14. You poor things. We've got a similar situation here, with myself and the wee man down for the count. Vicious cycle really, as I have been sleeping in the single bed with him to comfort the woes... and now I have those very woes. But I also feel super grateful to have a warm little home to get better in. Our weekend was quiet-ish also. A little venture out today, but it was really way too cold to be enjoying anything for too long. So it was back home to take it easy again. Hope you're all feeling much better after your restful weekend xo

  15. I love that ther terms "snot fest" and "happiness" are lumped into the same story-- that pretty much sums up motherhood and it truly is amazing how it doesn't seem strange anymore that its this way!

  16. Hope the snot fest improves soon and that all in your house are well....lap up those extra cuddles!
