With Nothing But Respect

My Grandpa on far left

Granddad with his mum

With my personal views about war aside, it is with nothing but respect that I look upon these photo's of my grandfathers - standing tall and proud in uniform, ready to serve the country in which I now live freely.

ANZAC day is weighty- as is the very short history of white man in this land.

Lest we forget.

  1. War is not an easy issue. I have mixed feelings about it. I am ever so grateful to be turning 60 this year and have never ever seen the countries I've lived in under the dark cloud of invasion or threat. I have lived a blessed life because of what others have sacrificed. I am pretty much anti-war but it's easy to be when everything you have has always remained safe. Thank-you to every person who has given so much and suffered so much for the benefit of so many.We should not take this lightly.

  5. Really beautifully said Emily. I was so pleased this morning to see so many people, young and old, including families all huddled together in the rain this morning to acknowledge and remember at the Dawn Service. We can abhor war and the politics that cause it, but we can never forget the sacrifice these men and women made for us. In a cause they believed (and those that continue to believe) in.

  6. No matter our personal thoughts on war, we can never under estimate the sacrifice that our troops have made so we can enjoy all the priveliges of freedom.

  7. Oh darlin', I understand where you are coming from. But these photos are just treasures, as are your grandfathers. So much emotion is tied to this day, it's a part of us all. I can still never fathom the enormity of war, nor the complexities surrounding it. Lest we forget xoxo

  9. I listened to Henry Rollins speaking on JJJ a couple of nights ago about the need for us to be anti-war but pro-soldier... to take precious care of the soldiers who are victims of war just like everyone else. It was very moving... that's a really special photo to have of your grandfather.

  10. Beautifully said Em.

I'm always struck by how young soldiers are, today and in the past. Looking at your Granddad standing beside his mum makes me teary.
