Dave has finally convinced me that we should dig up part of the only flat land we have to plant vegies. We have been discussing the idea for ages but I've been pretty determined to keep the front yard free for the Young Man to play in. However, I am weak... and totally attracted to the idea of a self sufficient life... kinda... i think. And so we go, guided by John Seymour, into the great illusive dream of sewing and harvesting. Again (we have had many failed attempts). Watch this space.

It sounds like a great plan, you will love it promise especially when you go and pick your own things and then get to eat them it really is fun. xo
ReplyDeleteOooh let the veggie wars begin! We've just planted ours, too! Although you look like you've done a little more homework than us. I love that Olive is there in the highchair as if she's ready to devour the first offerings... now that's local - a real kitchen garden! xx
ReplyDeleteJealous! I have been planning to start a vegie garden for ages but havn't got there yet. Have fun with it!
ReplyDeleteThe yard photos are hilarious!!! Love it!! Have fun and good luck :)
ReplyDeleteVery cool. Good for you guys. We are in the beginning stages of starting a garden too, and I really want a composter!
ReplyDeleteI dream of having a veggie patch. With a gardener to tend to it, of course. Such a clever, handsome husband you have! Kellie xx
ReplyDeleteOh I love your picket fence... that is phase one of our vegie garden due to happen very soon! gxo
ReplyDeletegood luck :) sounds like a great plan!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with it all! Our enthusiasm seems to wax and wane, and the chooks got into our newly planted vegies just last week. So as much as we try, I'm glad I can still get to Coles...
ReplyDeleteI really hope your plan works out. Also, I just love how robust that IKEA high chair is - goes anywhere we need it to go!
ReplyDeleteRonnie :)
Sounds like a great plan, I am 'river cottage crazy' at the moment, I even have the kids wanting to watch the dvd,s. Am trying to convince my husband that we should buy some land (to be self sufficient). However, it might be a good idea to practise in our current 4x1 metre vegie patch. It is sadly negelected and slightly overgrown with oregano!
ReplyDeleteBut still I dream and keep buying the books too!
I really hope youget some bumper crops :)
ReplyDeleteThe vegie patch at our place gets too much shade during spring & summer for our produce to do very well. Love the mallet. :)
our chookies got into our patch and ate every green thing last month! Vege patch is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteSelf sufficiency rocks! :o) Good luck and take it slow, don't burn out!
ReplyDeleteI am a self-confessed Brown Thumb. But damn it! If I can get spinach and rocket and parsnip and broccoli to grow, then anyone can!
ReplyDeletePS. I took the wimp way out, using those half wine barrel whatsits...
Your veggie garden sounds like so much fun! Enjoy it!! Thanks for sharing at FNF :)
